Unknown Value Search in Games

ArtMoney can search for a value in game memory even when you do not know its exact number. This is useful when a game displays a value as a bar, percentage, icon, or another form that does not show the actual numeric value.

What Is an Unknown Value?

An unknown value is a value stored in game memory when its exact number is not known. For example, you may see a health bar but not know whether the game stores the current health as 100, 75, 63, or another number.

How to Search for an Unknown Value

Start ArtMoney and select the required game process. When the exact value is unknown, begin with an unknown-value search. ArtMoney scans the process memory and creates a list of possible addresses.

Then change the value in the game. For example, take damage, spend resources, or otherwise change the value you are looking for. Return to ArtMoney and filter the results according to what happened to the value.

Filter the Search Results

The important part of an unknown-value search is repeated filtering. After each change in the game, scan the remaining results again. If the value decreased, increased, changed, or stayed the same, use the corresponding search condition. Repeating this process reduces the number of possible addresses.

Find the Required Address

Continue changing the value and filtering the results until only a small number of addresses remain. You can then examine the addresses and determine which one contains the required game value. The value can be edited or frozen when appropriate.

When Is Unknown Value Search Useful?

  • Health displayed as a bar instead of a number.
  • Values whose exact starting number is unknown.
  • Game resources that change during play.
  • Values that can only be identified by how they change.
